Wool Rug Cleaning

Brush - If you have pets, you may find that their hair may accumulate in your wool rug. Since you do not want to use an overly powerful vacuum on your wool rug, vacuuming will often leave pet hair behind on the wool rug. A simple and effective way to remove pet hair is to gently brush the wool rug making sure you brush in the direction of the nap of the rug.
Snow Cleaning - Believe it or not, an effective way to clean your wool rug is to use snow! Once again wool rugs have been around for centuries, so sometimes old methods of cleaning are the best. To clean a wool rug with snow, you can take your rug outside on a day when the temperatures will remain below freezing, and at least 3 inches of snow has accumulated on the ground. Allow the wool rug to acclimate itself to the temperature (usually a half an hour or so works, and this will keep the snow from melting and saturating the wool) and then place fresh, clean snow on the rug. Gently beat the rug with the flat side of a broom and then flip it over and repeat the same process for the back of the rug and then shake off excess snow and allow the rug to hand outside for a minimum of 30 minutes. The below-freezingtemperatures will kill any bacteria that may be lurking in your wool rug, and the snow will help remove any dirt and debris trapped in the fibers of the rug.
